International Jewish Voices of Dissent
June 14th at 6:30 PM
474 Valencia @ 16th Street, San Francisco, 2nd Floor Auditorium
Join Sara Kershnar and Mich Levy for stories of their travels in Israel and
Europe to meet with anti-Zionist Jewish activists and intellectuals , with
the aim of building an international anti-Zionist Jewish network. These
international voices offer a deeper understanding of anti-Zionism from a
Leftist tradition, and inform the role of anti-Zionist Jewish politics and
organizing within the Palestine solidarity movement.
"History is important. You cannot understand [the occupation of Palestine]
by taking a snapshot of its present state: you have to rewind the tape...The
conflict began a century ago, and became acute following the First World
War. In general terms: it is part of the complex of unresolved problems
bequeathed to the region by the Western--British and French--imperialist
Powers in the way they broke up and carved up the Ottoman Empire...But
specifically: it is a conflict between the Zionist project of colonizing
Palestine and the indigenous people of that land, the Palestinian
Arabs...Present-day Israel is not only a product of the Zionist colonization
project but also an instrument for its further extension and expansion.
Colonization is ongoing."
--Moshe Machover, philosophy professor and co-founder of Matzpen, the
anti-Zionist Israeli Socialist Organization.
