The Iraq Moratorium is a community based nationwide campaign to organize public displays of opposition to the war in Iraq on the third Friday of each month, starting on September 21.

Our goals are simple: ending the US occupation of Iraq, bringing the troops home now, and funding human needs here at home. The SF Bay Area Iraq Moratorium exists to encourage diverse individuals, communities and organizations to demonstrate their opposition to the war each month in as many different ways as they find useful and possible.

IRAQ MORATORIUM CAMPAIGN
Third Friday of the Month: September 21, October 19, November 16

Now, 70% of Americans are against the war in Iraq. While the political process is moving
very slowly, we must find new ways to end American military involvement in Iraq.

It is time to take our country back to the traditional roots of the democratic process, and
demand our leaders listen to the people and end this tragic war. Our country’s treasure
in human lives, resources and reputation is at a critical point. Americans of all political
persuasions are encouraged to join a campaign with one goal: To end US military
involvement in the war in Iraq and bring our troops home. Points of unity are:

1. The Call: “Out of Iraq Now – Stop Funding the War - Fund Human Needs”
2. Hallmark: Wear and distribute black ribbons and dress in black.
3. Outreach: Contact representatives in Congress and repeat the Call.

The idea is simple: On September 21 and on the subsequent third Friday of each month,
Americans in communities across the country will break from their daily routine to take
concrete steps to participate in activities where they live, work, and study.

The hallmark will be wearing ribbons and/or dressing in black, in mourning for all those
who have died in this illegal and immoral occupation. Participants can choose from a
variety of activities regarding what steps to take alone or with others on September 21
and continuing thereafter.

Friday, September 21 is United Nations International Peace Day.

The Iraq Moratorium is not an organization. It is a project to strengthen the work of
peace and democracy. We hope the clear and simple message, the local focus, and the
variety of activities the Moratorium embraces will bring participation by those who have
not yet taken action against the war. We encourage organizations and individuals to join
the Iraq Moratorium as an endorser.
